The project »3D structuring and scaffold development« centers around the design and production of 3D scaffolds for use in regenerative medicine or tissue engineering in close cooperation with 3D Structuring Processes at Fraunhofer ISC.
The extracellular matrix (ECM) plays an important role for essential cell functions like adhesion, migration, proliferation, and differentiation. A clear understanding of biophysical interaction mechanisms between a cell and its environment provides a solid base for the cell-specific design of three dimensional scaffolds in terms of surface topography or chemical functionalization. Once the cell type specific material of the ECM is determined, scaffolds are made via two photon polymerization. The findings will allow to directly control cell functions and facilitate the development of complex implants or artifical organs.
